If you're passionate about helping dogs in need and want to make a difference in the Costa Blanca community, then this blog is for you. At APROP, a dedicated dog shelter in Pego, a group of volunteers works hard to provide care, comfort, and second chances to abandoned and rescued dogs. But they need help! Whether you’re looking to give your time, skills, or resources, there’s a way for everyone to start helping dogs and making a difference.
How you can help dogs at APROP
Volunteer your time
Walk the Dogs: Morning walks happen from 8:00 am to 10:30 am. Whether you're experienced or new to dog walking, APROP’s friendly team will guide you. Spending time with these furry companions is as good for your heart as it is for theirs. In the colder winter months, it's also possible to walk the dogs in the afternoon from 15:00 pm.
Housekeeping: Keep the shelter spick and span, ensuring the dogs are comfortable and well-cared for: they feed the dogs, take care of their medication if needed and work on their socialization. Shifts run from 8:00–11:30 am or 16:00–19:00 pm.
Both roles give you the chance to connect with these loving animals and give them the care they deserve.
Donate
Supporting the shelter financially is another powerful way to help. APROP faces rising costs, particularly for food and veterinary care. Here’s how you can contribute:
Make a one-time donation.
Set up a monthly contribution—even a small amount makes a big impact!
Join the Teaming Group, donating just €1/month.
Donations go directly toward providing food, medical treatment and shelter for the dogs. Learn more or donate here via APROP Financial Donations.
Salamandra Charity Shop
Salamandra supports APROP by selling donated items. You can support Salamandra Charity Shop by donating items they can sell to help fund APROP’s dog shelter. Consider dropping off summer clothes you no longer need, winter outfits you won’t wear or household items. Donations can be taken to the shop in Javea, you can deliver it directly to the shelter or can be collected by contacting Richard on WhatsApp at +34 626 699 519.
Why helping dogs in the Costa Blanca matters
Volunteering or donating to APROP isn’t just about giving back to the animals; it’s also about being part of a supportive, multicultural community.
Take it from Karlijn, our VLCB Amiga and a passionate volunteer:
"I started to help the dogs and meet new people. Now I’m involved in everything from housekeeping to health checks. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know I’m making a difference in their lives."
